In 1996, MOOIJER took a step that few wholesalers take: setting up its own fishing company on the other side of the ocean. Operating under the name HOLSU, based in Domburg, Suriname, a fleet of five fishing vessels sets sail daily under its own flag in search of exotic fish species that are rarely found elsewhere.
What began as a forward-thinking response to the growing demand for unusual fish has since developed into a fully-fledged, modern fish processing plant. Here, exotic fish species from Suriname are professionally processed and prepared for export. Today, HOLSU supplies customers in the Netherlands, China, Jamaica, Japan and the United States – a global reach that began with five boats and a clear vision.

From catch to export
Demand for exotic fish species in Europe is growing, and HOLSU is growing with it. Several times a month, a full container of Caribbean fish species sets off for Volendam. Barracuda, koepila and snappers – freshly caught by fishing boats that set sail daily under their own flag, processed in Suriname and shipped to our distribution centre in Volendam.
It is this direct line from catch to customer that makes HOLSU unique. No middlemen, no uncertainty about provenance. You know exactly where the fish comes from, because we are there ourselves from the moment the nets are cast.
