A short introduction to Jasmine rice

Jasmine rice is a dry food product and a very diverse rice variety. Jasmine rice is a white rice. The rice grain is milled, polished and dehulled, giving the rice a beautiful white colour.

This long-grain rice is famous for its delicate aroma and flavour – an unrivalled rice variety according to connoisseurs. The rice grains are flavoured with the leaves from the pandan palm. This variety is named after the delicate Jasmine blossoms that adorn the rice fields during the growing period. Hence, the rice grains also smell like Jasmine.

The aroma and flavour of more expensive rice varieties are more refined and subtle. 

Jasmine rice is often associated with specific regions in Southeast Asia. It has different names, such as Thai Hom Mali rice from Thailand, ST 25 rice from Vietnam and Jasmine rice from Cambodia. Rice from certain regions is pricy due to specific climatic conditions and soil quality that contribute to its unique flavour and quality. Certain more expensive Jasmine rice come with certifications indicating that the rice has been produced according to specific quality standards, such as organic or sustainable production methods. ST25 rice also has an elongated and shiny grain. In addition, long-grain rice has a natural sweetness and nutty flavour that sets it apart from other varieties. This rice is often used in traditional Vietnamese dishes and is popular for its texture and distinct flavour profile.

Cambodia is also known as the rice paradise. With its rice fields stretching far and wide, Cambodia is one of the major rice suppliers.
