History

The brothers Carlo and René Mooijer have taken over the Northsea shrimp company Crevettes BV in 1988 from their father and uncle Mooijer. The new company V.O.F. Mooijer acquired worldwide attention by introducing machine-peeled shrimps on the European market. This product has brought the company growth and prosperity in the first years and resulted in a transfer to a private company Mooijer-Volendam B.V. in 1996.

In 1996 the company established together with the Dutch family van der Veen from Harlingen a company called HOLSU NV (Holland-Surinam) in Surinam. The building and EU-agreement of the factory in Domburg (EU 597/112) was the start of a successful cooperation, which has resulted in many frozen sea-containers being shipped to the European Community. Our 5 ships are equipped with 60 mton freezing capacity, which guarantees a super fresh quality of the fish.

Morseweg 41, the first address of Mooijer-Volendam BV, had become too small in 2002 for the companies activities. In the same year a new company was built at the Toek 1-3-5, where the office and cold store are still present. This logistic heart with 3587 pallet locations is the place where all orders are gathered and distributed to the customers with our own trucks.

In 2003 the company Lou Snoek BV was merged into Mooijer-Volendam BV. Lou Snoek BV was a well-known brand of excellent, daily fresh smoked fish. The products of Lou Snoek have been included in the overall assortment of Mooijer-Volendam BV and the smoked mackerel, herring, sprat, salmon and eel are sold all over the Netherlands, predominantly in the specialized fish shops (mongers).

Through the years the assortment has greatly expanded with several fresh and frozen types of fish from the most exotic corners of the world. Mooijer-Volendam B.V. also has an extensive range of fruit and vegetables from different Asian countries. Together with the fish this results in a supply that is suitable for the different ethnic groups in Europe such as the Africans, Surinamese, Vietnamese and Turkish.

In anticipation of further growth a brand new smoke house was built in Volendam. With this facility Lou Snoek complies to the latest quality requirements, with whom the highest standard will be achieved(International Food Standard or IFS)
